A Word About Fountains in Waiting Rooms

Posted under fountains, interior design

I was in the waiting room at my dentist’s office today, dreading my appointment, when I noticed (not that it was hard) this really large and somewhat intimidating wall fountain. I looked at it for a while. It sounded pretty cool… I closed my eyes and tried to relax. It actually helped a little; the sounds of the fountain helped calm my nerves.

The dentist's fountain...

But when I opened my eyes, I still saw this big and formidable looking fountain. It’s very robust with its blackened copper trim and its dark, powerful-looking slate face, with that sinister brown scar cutting across. Needless to say, while I was in awe of this fountain, it didn’t do a whole lot to calm my nerves. It certainly didn’t seem like a good idea in a dentist’s waiting room.

After my appointment, I left the office and walked next door. I happened to peer into the office, which was apparently a massage therapy parlor, and I saw this wall fountain, which I just had to take a picture of. Quite the stark contrast to the fountain next door:

... and the masseuse's fountain. See the difference?

Now, imagine if this serene, welcoming, and soft little wall fountain had been installed in the dentist’s office. Now, that would have been comforting! I am considering writing my dentist a letter on how to properly decorate a waiting room.
