The Best Centerpiece for your Child’s Bedroom: The Bunk Bed

Posted under bedroom furniture

There comes a time in a young family’s life that the children will want a room of their own, if they do not already have one. Indulging their whim seems the appropriate course of actions, especially for couples who desire some privacy. On the other end of the spectrum, there are parents who have trouble convincing children to move into their own room. It does not matter which dilemma you face as long as you have the budget and are aware of all considerations for fixing up a room that your kids will be happy with.

Aside from consulting with your children on the overall design of the new room, you should also ask them about furniture they may want. The most important piece of furniture in any bedroom is, of course, the bed. Since we are on the topic of saving space to allow several people, in this case your children, to occupy a single room, you may want to consider purchasing a bunk bed.

Of the myriad types of kids bunk beds, the basic bunk bed is the most common. It is simply two beds, one mounted over the other. The bed at the bottom can either be a full size bed or the same size as the one on top. The basic bunk bed, one of eight identifiable classes of bunk beds that come in various colors and materials, is perfect for rooms that have limited space.

The futon is one more form of loft bunk beds. The term futon is derived from the Japanese word for a storable mattress. The bunk bed of this type is comprised of a twin size bed hoisted over a cushion that can serve one of two functions, a couch or a cot. When floor space is a major consideration for choosing a bunk bed, then the futon is the right choice.

If floor space isn’t an issue, perhaps you’ll find the L-shaped or triple kids bunk beds a better fit. Although the triple bunk bed can obviously accommodate three children, it is also designed in the shape of the letter L with the halves of the beds facing away from each other in a ninety degree angle. Despite taking up more space than your basic children beds, it more than makes up for it by providing a small area under the top half for activities like reading or studying.

The space under the lower mattress of kids bunk beds can also be used to house a supplementary bed. This type of configuration is called trundle beds. The augmentation to a basic bunk bed is the perfect alternative to purchasing the space-consuming L-shaped bunk beds, and serves another purpose”"that of a storage area. Just remove the cushion and you have an instant drawer.

There are three things you have to remember when selecting from a wide range of kids bunk beds: Your budget, your needs, and the amount of space you can fill. Fortunately for those stumped with the third consideration, this category of children beds provides the alternative of converting one of the bunks into trundle beds.
